Michelle Obama Talks Holding Boot Camp Workouts At White House
It is a truth universally understood that one doesn’t get Michelle Obama’s arms without sweat, push-ups and that most dreaded of physical activities: burpees. But now the former First Lady, who put getting kids moving and healthy as one of her biggest priorities, has revealed the extent of her commitment to keeping fit and healthy.
That is, how she hosted bootcamps at the White House for her best gal pals
In an Instagram post, Obama shared how she used to get her squad together for some light grueling activity on the White House lawns.
“It didn’t matter that we were all at varying fitness levels. Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first,” she wrote.
Obama also paid tribute to the women she surrounds herself with.
“My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years – including a pretty big one recently! – and we’ve done our best to stay healthy together.”
Women taking care of themselves so that they can better take care of others is a passion point for Obama, and a pertinent one to many women who put others’ needs before their own, sometimes to the detriment of their own health and wellbeing.
As Obama once said, “Women in particular need to keep an eye on their physical and mental health, because if we’re scurrying to and from appointments and errands, we don’t have a lot of time to take care of ourselves. We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to-do’ list.”
